We know it may be difficult to hear, but sometimes a tooth cannot be repaired by a traditional dental restoration, such as a dental crown or a dental filling. If this happens, our dentist may recommend a tooth extraction in American Fork, Utah.
What is a Tooth Extraction?
As the name suggests, a tooth extraction is when an irreparable tooth is removed. Teeth that require removal often have excessive dental decay due to lack of oral hygiene or are loose due to gum recession from severe periodontal (gum) disease. Other reasons for removing a tooth include excessive dental trauma and infection, which can cause severe toothaches and discomfort. The tooth may also be removed to prevent other complications in the mouth, such as crowding or impaction.
At our dental office, Dr. Clayton M. Hansen does everything he can to preserve the life of the tooth and only offers tooth extraction as a last resort. If a tooth does need to be removed, our dentist will discuss replacement options with you and explain the treatment process so you know what to expect every step of the way.
